A little about me
A teacher at heart, I have worked within the education sector for over 20 years, spending time both inside and outside of the classroom. After 14 years of teaching and consulting overseas, I came home with a real drive to support schools, students and families around wellbeing. I recently joined the Linewize family as the Community Success Specialist after previously working with Netsafe as their education advisor.
The year that was
I think we can all agree that 2020 has been quite a ride - learning and teaching as we knew it was flipped on its head, quickly pivoting from face-to-face learning environments to online ones. For many families, it was their first real insight into how their children interacted online. And, for some, the prospect of having to deal with challenges if and when they arose was frightening.
For parents who didn’t already have the Family Zone app in place before the move to remote learning, the introduction of Family Zone filtering tools was a game-changer. Suddenly parents had insights into the apps, platforms and sites their children were accessing. The ability and flexibility to set study, play and sleep times was also significant.

2020 has shown how important it is for schools to create and nurture strong collaborative partnerships with families and whānau. I have gathered a couple of my top tips for Term 4, to help your school with key things to be thinking about in readiness for 2021.
