"At the end of the day, we want to guide our students to make the right decisions both online and offline, ensuring they are safe and well-prepared for the future."

Background

Minarah College, an Independent Islamic school in Sydney’s South West, fully embraced digital transformation by implementing a one-to-one student device learning program. Recognising the importance of new learning styles and a protechnology mindset, they knew that providing each student with a device they could ‘control’ was essential. To safeguard their students both offline and online as they provided devices to the kids, they sought an end-to-end solution to monitor and support their students’ overall wellbeing.

The challenge and context

Minarah College traditionally relied on computer labs for learning which gave them lesser control and visibility into the devices used by students. This prompted the transition to a one-to-one student device learning program. They chose Microsoft Services as their standard operating environment to manage their digital ecosystem, which made rolling out a fleet of devices to all student cohorts at once challenging. But the main priority was to make sure all devices were safe and they had visibility and insights into student device usage to make informed safeguarding decisions.

"Without Linewize, we would just be getting limited information, and it would be difficult to monitor internet usage and content access."

Looking Ahead

The journey is ongoing, with Bayside Christian College continually seeking to improve and adapt. Achilles envisions further refining their systems and processes to ensure students are not only safe but also well-prepared for the digital world. Their partnership with Linewize remains crucial as they explore new features and capabilities to support their goals.

Future plans for Bayside Christian College include:

  • Expanding Digital Literacy Programs: Introducing more comprehensive digital literacy programs to help students understand the complexities of the online world and make informed decisions.
  • Enhancing Family Engagement: Developing strategies to better engage families in digital safety, including more resources and workshops to empower parents.
  • Implementing Advanced Monitoring Tools: Exploring new monitoring tools and features to provide even more detailed insights into students' online behaviours and needs.
  • Promoting Digital Citizenship: Encouraging students to be responsible digital citizens, understanding the impact of their online actions and fostering a positive digital culture.

Achilles advises other schools looking to enhance their digital safety:

"It's important to challenge the status quo and find solutions that align with your school's values and goals. Partner with providers who respect your vision and are willing to work with you to achieve it. At the end of the day, it's about protecting and empowering our students."
